- HLl thanked the school for hosting a very enjoyable and useful meeting.
- HLl noted that a small number of schools have forwarded their research titles.
He requested that schools forward their research titles and an invoice for £4000 to C.Hart by the end of term. These will be settled when all have been received during the summer.
- HLl invited Professor Dylan Jones, Vice Chancellor of University of WalesTrinity St Davids to speak regarding the reform of the 3rd Tier as the deadline is approaching for headteachers to respond, prior to reporting to WG.
Many headteachers have not responded and a number present stated that they had not met with their LA to discuss the matter.DJ commented that some of the consultations have suggested a need for a vertical as well as a horizontal structure and groupings with schools in similar contexts. Some members commented that current families of schools do not work particularly well. Others stated that external training provided by the 3rd Tier was not useful.
DJ stated that the he will be asking how the 3rd Tier is creating greater agency and collaboration amongst schools. Some members commented that difficulties in recruitment of staff undermine cooperation as headhunting sometimes causes conflict.
Many heads/schools state that involvement from the 3rd Tier is top-down rather than bottom-up.
DJ invited responses from schools as a matter of urgency as he will be reporting to WG in July and October. He gave his work email for responses to be sent. - R.Thomas has agreed to host the next meeting in Ysgol Penrhyn Dewi on 16th October 2024.
