Theme:
Developing a new curriculum for Wales
If “Other,” please specify:
Developing an assessment system for the WGfL focusing on general skills
Rationale for the choice of theme:
We tested the questionnaire with one class first, so we redesigned the forms to ensure that we could analyze the collected data. We conducted the research survey before Christmas and intend to do so again after Easter to see if: 1. We can assess progress within general skills? 2. Is this assessment method one that can be used?
What was the research question?
Is it possible to assess general skills within the WGfL?
What research design was used?
Practitioner Research (Solving practical school problems).
Research methods used:
Questionnaires, Focus Groups
How was the funding used to resource the design?
Staff visits
What were the research objectives?
We aimed to trial the questionnaire with one class.
What were the research outcomes?
We needed to adjust what the trialists did first, so we re-did the survey before Christmas to collect valuable data to contribute to our evaluation discussions. We will redo the survey in the Summer Term to bring to conclusions that will show if the curriculum is developing the general skills of our pupils.
How has the research process impacted the school?
We will be able to share more after conducting the survey again.
What, if any, are the potential areas for follow-up research?
As above, but we need to develop a method of assessing general skills from within schools.
How have any changes resulting from the research been implemented?
Not applicable
Can the school make recommendations to other schools based upon the research?
Not applicable
