Bio

Hi, My name is Richard Owen, Executive Headteacher of Idris Davies School 3 to 18, which is based at the top end of the Rhymney Valley in Caerphilly. The school was formed following the amalgamation of Rhymney Comprehensive School with Pontlottyn and Abertysswg Primary School in January 2018.

I have worked at Idris Davies School 3 to 18 since its establishment taking over from the three acting Headteachers of the schools that amalgamated. Prior to this role I was Deputy Headteacher of Ferndale Community School and had worked there since 2005.

If you have any questions regarding the school or would like to visit you are more than welcome to contact the school office.

Idris Davies School

Idris Davies School 3-18 opened on January, 8th 2018 and is the first English medium school in Wales which offers a through school education for pupils between the ages of 3 and 18. The school was established from the amalgamation of Rhymney Comprehensive School, Abertwssg Primary School and Pontlottyn Primary School. We are based in Rhymney and serve the top end of the Rhymney Valley.

We are based on a large campus with a primary phase and secondary phase building. The primary phase building was purpose built in 2018 with state of the art classrooms and facilities. The building also houses an integrated children’s services centre which hosts a Flying Start provision and wraparound care provider. Our outside areas include a wide range of sporting facilities, an outdoor classroom, an amphitheatre, a vegetable garden, a wood and three ponds.

As a school we have one simple aim and that is to provide our learners with an excellent education. We offer our learners a broad, balanced curriculum that equips them with the experiences, skills and qualifications that they require to access further education or career pathways when they leave our school. The curriculum is enhanced with a wide range of extra curricula activities which further enhances our pupils learning experiences.

Our school operates in full partnership with all of our stakeholders. Fully embracing the views of our pupils, parents, staff, governors and wider community to inform and guide our work in order that we develop a school that effectively identifies and meets the needs of our pupils and our community.
